“I aim for my target user AND production partners to feel intimately considered. ”
GREETINGS
ATSWMF is a collection of design projects and ideas undertaken by me, Jerick Ngo. While studying Industrial Design in my home turf of Southern California, I began my career taking design jobs to gain experience and fund my design education. The combination of studying alongside and under some of the most creative minds in the world during the day, and finding time and energy to keep learning with real world responsibilities as a designer at night, gave my nascent career a tough but rewarding rookie stress test.
One thing I gained in the throes of those years was versatility. When I design, I aim to go deep. I aim for my target user AND production partners to feel intimately considered. With this goal as a constant, I was forced practice achieving it on a queue of unrelated projects both in the university and in the office. By 2012 when I graduated and through today, I can say happily that I know no other way.
I've designed a range of things from bags, to electronic devices for children, to camping gear, to packaging. I've grown with small businesses, medium and large corporations, and a start-up as well as various clients as a freelancer. Though I still hold the feeling that my career is just getting started, I can already look back on years of growth from the different opportunities that I've been able to seize. My career has sent me into trenches and sent me around the world. It's tested my mettle and at times, exceeded my dreams.
At this point in my career, I can say that as a designer, I have the most fun and am most effective when handling a range of projects. I like to consider the relationship between a customer and a brand, then ponder what solutions/products/possibilities nourish that relationship. I find that this approach drives me to understand everything from materials, to factories, to users—while staying mobile to explore new methods and approaches less known.
